Prayer of Urgent Confession

Pastor:             Lord Jesus, You see the reality of our lives and know every event we experience. We are not worthy of Your love, for we are not completely faithful to Your ways. On this terrible night of betrayal, our sins are fully revealed and our secret shame is exposed to You. We confess that we have disowned Your beautiful words and dismissed Your sacred teaching.

People:                       O Lord, we are arrogant and vain instead of being humble and devoted. Even as Christians, we are often stubborn and foolish, instead of being trustworthy and faithful. We frequently disappoint our loved ones and discard our neighbor’s needs. We fill our hearts and minds with daydreams and desires, instead of Your commands and truth.

Pastor:             Forgive us, Lord Jesus, for surrendering to sin and succumbing to temptation. Pardon us for casting You aside in order to embrace the world’s distractions. On this night, above all other nights, help us to hold on to Your hope, so that we may grasp the grace of God as His Powerful Spirit passes over us. Hear us now as we silently confess our sins.

COMMUNION  - At the appropriate time, the congregation shall come forward to receive the bread and wine.  After this, the elders will come to those who wish to take communion where they are seated.

Prayer of Thanksgiving (unison)      Lord Jesus, Your Holy Spirit has deeply afflicted and spiritually convicted us this evening. We know that we sent You to the Cross because we are selfish creatures and constant sinners. Yet, despite these human failures and common faults, You still offer us Your grace and God’s peace. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for redeeming our souls and restoring us to God. In Your Holy Name, we gratefully pray. Amen.

Pastor:             Lord Jesus, You see the truth in our lives and know everything about us. We are not worthy of Your grace, nor are we completely faithful to Your ways. On this terrible night, our sins are amplified and our shame is exposed to You. We know that we have betrayed Your beautiful words and trashed Your sacred teaching.

People:                       O Lord, we are proud instead of being humble. As Christians, we are stubborn and foolish, rather than being steadfast and faithful. We disappoint our loved ones and neglect our neighbor’s needs. We fill our hearts and minds with our own inconsequential trivia, instead of Your eternal truths.

Pastor:             Forgive us, Lord Jesus, for giving in to our fears and succumbing to temptation. Pardon us for casting You aside to embrace the world’s attractions. PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Guide:             O Lamb of God, have mercy upon us. On this fateful night, we remember Your betrayal and it reminds us of how often we fail to follow You.

People:            O Sacrificial Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.

Guide:             We remember with shame the sinful secrets of our lives. We recall our past mistakes and most deepest regrets.

People:            O Perfect Lamb of God, shield us from God’s wrath and cleanse us with Your blood.

Guide:             Do not turn away from when we are desperate for Your help. Do not cast us aside for we fear the darkness of death and the loneliness of life.

People:            O Holy Lamb of God, we cling to You and seek Your pardon.

Guide:             Help us to be free of former things that have chained us to our sins. Take our lives and change them. Accept our tainted souls and purify them.

People:            O Sacred Lamb of God, without Your grace we have no goodness. Without Your acceptance, we have no absolution.

Guide:             Prevent us from wasting our lives and squandering our faith. Protect us from temptation and cancel out our sins

People:            O Passover Lamb of God, grant us forgiveness and mercy, holiness and sanctification. In Your Holy Name, we pray. Amen.

DEDICATION

All:      Lord Jesus, we have betrayed You many times and afflicted You with our sorrows. We have caused You to die on the Cross because we are sinful and selfish. We can never repay our debts to You, for what can we offer that will pay for absolute forgiveness and eternal life?  We give You these gifts, that others may hear and read Your Words, and that souls may be saved, both near and far. In Your Holy Name, we give and pray. Amen.

Call to worship:

You discern my going out and my lying down;

Before a word is on my tongue

Prayer of Confession:

Guide:             Lord Jesus, as we remember Your betrayal on this sacred night, remind us of the times that we have betrayed You.

People:            When we have disappointed or hurt other people, Lord, forgive us.

Guide:             When we have diminished the power of Your Word through the selfishness of our actions, Lord, forgive us.

People:            When we have made promises that we do not intend to keep, or said something that grieves our loved ones, Lord forgive us.

Guide:             When we have acted rashly and have cast aside those who need our help; when we have been distracted by the world and remain unattracted to Your Spirit, Lord forgive us.

People:            When we have twisted Your words to justify our choices, Lord, forgive us.

Guide:             When we hide our faith or avoid being known as Christians, Lord, have mercy;

People:            Remove our sins with Your precious blood, and graciously restore us to Your service; for Your sake and God’s greater glory.  Amen.

OFFERING & DEDICATION

All:      Lord Jesus, You willingly lay down Your life so that we may have forgiveness and be restored to God’s everlasting love. Without Your Sacrifice, there would be no grace. Humbly, we bring before You our gifts and ask that You will receive and bless them for the continuing work of the Gospel and Your ministry here on Earth.  In Your Holy Name, we give and pray. Amen.
